Portions, not averages

A visual record of Shawi foods, preparations and the measures used in everyday life.
Mine · MocahuaThis repository is based on the 2023 Shawi Food Photo Atlas, developed from work in Balsapuerto, Alto Amazonas, Loreto. The document records foods, preparations, portion photographs and tableware.
The atlas describes work in 2021 with four families from the communities of 10 de Agosto, Nueva Luz, Irapay and Maranatha, and a workshop in 2022 in 10 de Agosto.
The atlas was designed as a visual aid to help people recognise the sizes of foods they consumed and support recording quantities during fieldwork. Size categories were defined with Shawi participants. The website makes that record easier to consult, without presenting it as dietary advice.
